About the artist

The Artist - Andrew Dandridge

The Artist – Andrew Dandridge, is a successful landscape and marine artist with sales in excess of 4,000 original paintings, a burgeoning greetings card business and a growing demand for his signed limited edition prints.

Despite this success he remains modest and unassuming, clearly driven by his passion for both the English countryside and all things marine, and a genuine desire to share his achievements with the growing number of his followers.

Having studied at Eastbourne School of Art and Design and at the Brighton School of Architecture and Interior Design, now part of Brighton University, he graduated with an Honours Degree.

Later in London, Andrew went on to broaden his skills as an interior designer and architect with a West End architectural practice.

Now his watercolour paintings are highly sought after, they are frequently exhibited in galleries and feature in collections all over the world. He works principally in watercolour and gouache, and oils or acrylics. His subject matter is the Sussex and Hampshire Downs, the Lake District, Wales and Scotland along with Seascapes and Marine commissions.

Through his work, the Artist invites you to stand where he stood and behold the beauty of the landscape before you, or walk through enchanted woodlands and imbibe the heavenly scented air.

In his quest for exquisite views of the South Downs and the Weald of Sussex, he has walked and cycled much of the South Downs Way and has explored the banks of the Cuckmere, the  Arun, the Rother and the Adur rivers, each having featured in his paintings. His winter scenes are highly prized, as are his paintings of bluebell woods.

He has had a long association with the sea and ships. His father, who was also a fine marine artist, was in the Royal Navy and his mother was an officer in the Wrens during the Second World War being based in the “secret tunnels of South Hieghton” at Newhaven. He learnt to sail at the age of ten and grew up with yachts and sailing.

With his father he ran a yacht building company in Newhaven for a number of years gaining an international reputation for excellence and quality. Sailing has been a life long passion and he is never without a dinghy or yacht to sail. From this comes his love of marine paintings.

He has an intimate knowledge of the sea and boats of all types and all things marine. He paints them with a love for their grace and beauty and with great respect for the power of the sea in all it’s moods.
